A writer, poet, and delusionist

My name is Karina Contreras. I am a writer, a poet, and a delusionist.

I can’t remember when my passion for writing and words began, whether in the closet in my grandma’s apartment, sitting on a pile of clothes and scribbling a short essay on elephants, or much later. Nonetheless, it is a passion of mine that no one can take.

A myriad of short stories and horribly written poems later, sometime in High School, I wrote, edited, and published my debut novel: Their Immoral Hearts. It is dear to me, and I see myself in all stages of my teenage years in those pages. I have also written a (very) short collection of poems and short stories, confessions that helped me get through the rough stages, titled Letters I Never Sent.

Books two and three are in the works for the Heartwood Curse Trilogy, and I have no doubt there will be many more books to come.

I am from San Diego, California, have two cats, and a deep love for all things– the bugs, the trees, the sun; of soft moments and unspoken words. Below you will find my work. Stay tuned!
